Our Showcase Reef

The target site will be Paradise Reef (25.659° N, 80.097° W, depth 6-8 m),
a patch reef ~500 m in length.

This reef is in close proximity to UM’s land-based and in-water coral nurseries, and the dive shops that will run our citizen science restoration and debris removal expeditions. Previous outplanting at this site has been highly successful (> 90% survivorship of staghorn corals and > 75% survivorship of massive corals after 1 year).

This showcase restoration site will be marked with a very unique mooring buoy (PR-2). There will be a scannable QR code on the buoy directing citizen scientists to our Rescue a Reef linktree, where they can access a SEAFAN marine incident report, the Community Coral Garden webpage, and more.
